Jade Pendant with Immortal Peach Tree and Auspicious Symbols (J07)
This traditional Chinese pendant carved from a piece of deep emerald Jade is strung with a chain of beads made from Black Onyx.
This trapezoid shaped amulet is engraved with the Immortal Peach Tree as well as a pair of Deer. According to ancient legends, the Jade Emperor would host a special banquet once every 6 thousand years where all the immortals of heaven would be invited to eat this Peach of Immortality.
The deer is known for their speed, grace and endurance. These lovely animals are also associated with longevity and wealth. In Chinese the word for Deer is “luk” which also carries the meaning of a good and stable income. The deer is known to be the only animal that searches out for the “Leng Tzi” (fungus of immortality and long life) and consume it. Thus, even the horns of deer are widely sought for medicinal properties. The deer is often seen in in paintings with deities, gods and demi gods. The most famous is the depiction of the deer accompanied by the Chinese god of long life – “Sau” (one of the trinity in Fuk, Luk Sau)
